Ian and I had been spending time together after working at the mountain so when we asked me to grab a bite I didn’t think much about it. I definitely had a crush on him at that point but didn’t know if the feeling was mutual. We ended up going to a bar & grill down the road from Killington and had a really nice time. Even though he paid I didn’t realize it was a date, just thought he was being nice. He walked me to car after and we stood outside talking for a long time until it was too cold to stay out in the snow. I remember him saying to me how comfortable he was with me and how we could talk for hours. I got into my car shivering but very happy.

Our first date was at lookout bar and grill. I invited Sara because I was interested in her after getting to meet and ski with her at the mountain. This was the first time i saw her without a mask and helmet and thought she was so beautiful.
First Date
Sara:
We were in the botanic gardens for Rosh Hashanah. It was raining pretty heavily for Colorado but we decided to take a walk around the gardens after the service anyway. I didn't think too much of it until we were snaking down a couple paths, looking for a good spot to ask me and I was getting a little nervous. We ended up in the Japanese gardens where he propped up his phone to take a picture. We were going to take a second one when I noticed he got down on one knee and proposed. Ian ended up taking a video (which was such a good call) since it happened so fast. You can hear me crying over the sound of the rain. We let it sink in for a few minutes then headed back to the car to call both of our parents and head out to lunch. I would say it was pretty perfect.

When I decided to get the ring and ask her to marry me, I knew I wanted to ask her in the mountains. A slip up text with a friend for planning the day (I literally showed sara the text of the plan without knowing it was THE text of the plan) led me to scramble to pick a new proposal date. Well, I decided I would put the ring in my pocket and just ask when it felt right. A few days went by and i finally found the right moment. It was during a walk around the denver botanical gardens on a rainy day. It all just felt perfect, I knew this was ultimately the better way, better than any plan I could have made.
